Fujing is a city and/or city-state and the capital city of the Akarean Union, located at the southernmost tip of Great Huan. Although its legislature does not define a border and mirrors all laws and legislation from Great Huan, it is considered a separate state from the rest of Great Huan for administrative purposes; as such, it is the only city in the world that is both the capital of itself and another country whilst itself being a country and not a country simultaneously. With a population just over 128 million and with areas where the population density exceeds 1.3 million people per square kilometre, it is both the most populous and most densely populated city in the world.

As a port city, Fujing sits just above sea level, with a median elevation of just 22 meters. It is relatively flat, and sufficiently distant of the South Kaltach Fault that any earthquakes it does experience are minor. This relative stability has allowed the city to grow rapidly compared to others in Akarea, leading to its dramatic size and high population. It serves as the Union's economic and industrial centre, accountable for over 50% of the nation's GDP. Since the completion of the People's Hall and People's Exhibition and the inauguration of both complexes in 1930, it has been the host of the Grand Assembly.

Etymology

Originally named Gangzhen (港镇, gǎng zhèn, lit. (the) Port Town) owing to its role as a trade port since the 1600s, the name Fujing was derived from its rapid expansion from a town into a major city with the Fu particle coming from Fuguo, the name of Akarea in Mandarin. In classical Mandarin Candinisation the city's new name was spelled internationally as Fuking, which is similar to a swear word in Oseanian. The official Candinisation was changed from Fuking to Fujing around the 1770s as part of a larger series of language reforms bought about by the alliance between the Akarean Empire and the Confederacy during the Great Cultural Era.
