He! (嗬, archaic expression of surprise) is a satirical political party in the Akarean Union. It was founded by comedian and political columnist Hiroshi Mutsuwara as a parody of the Wow! party in Candanadium; he remains its sole member, and has stood for election in his local constituency of Ward 43, Fujing in every election since. He! has failed to win a single seat in the Grand Assembly in both the 2012 and 2016 elections. Mutsuwara stated in an interview after the results of the 2012 election that if He! were to ever win a seat, he would eat an entire block of butter live on television from the People's Exhibition before standing down and disbanding the party.
History
Following comments from West Satoyaman politician Sugiwara Masayoshi during a press conference in 2011 in which he stated that he believes the Akarean Union should apply for Kaltach Union membership, Mutsuwara (who is himself West Satoyaman but resides in Fujing) founded He! with the sole policy of telling him to "shut up". So as to be considered parliamentary in debates, this was rephrased into "zero emissions". Mutsuwara's application was accepted in February 2012; he has added to the party's manifesto over the years since.
In March 2014, prime minister Sun Lu-Tsi said of He! in a press interview that he "admired its concise demonstration of democratic freedoms in the [Akarean] Union", though he refused to make further comments when pressed.
Manifesto
He!'s manifesto outlines the following policies as of December 2015:
- Sugiwara Masayoshi to be zero-emissions by 2030
- The introduction of a 99-yuan coin
- All constituent states of the Akarean Union to leave and join the Kaltach Union as member nations
- All member nations of the Kaltach Union to leave and join the Akarean Union as constituent states
- A nationwide ban on single-use bus tickets, based on environmental concerns
- The construction of a cabaret club inside the People's Exhibition
- The construction of a new green paint factory to help get greener vehicles on the road
- The fitting of lifeboats to intercity trains
- Reduction of national healthcare expenditure by printing finance reports in a smaller type
Legacy
He! is the subject of internet memes during periods of heightened political intensity. On the 12th of September 2011, one such meme was presented in the People's Hall as part of an inquiry on the perceived effectiveness of politics in the Akarean Union.
Notes
[1]: Generally, a requirement of all recognised parties in the Akarean Union is a published address of headquarters; As the headquarters of He! is Mutsuwara's home in Fujing, a one-time exemption to this rule has been allowed.
