This template should only be used in articles on individual roller coasters. It should not be used in the park's article, as the auto-categorization will place the article in several inappropriate categories. Also, it should not be used in park articles because every coaster should have its own article, and cluttering up the park's article with infoboxes simply doesn't look good.

For dual-tracked coasters, use Infobox dual roller coaster.

Single-location roller coaster

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext" style="overflow:auto;">

Infobox roller coaster/doc
General statistics

</syntaxhighlight>

Multiple-location roller coaster

A simple additional location can be named in parameter "location2=" but a 2nd site with separate status or dates should be fully specified, instead, by parameter "extend=" with a full {.../extend} infobox for each location, as shown below: <syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext" style="overflow:auto;">

Infobox roller coaster/doc
Template:Infobox roller coaster/extend
General statistics

</syntaxhighlight>

Additional locations

Additional locations should be placed in separate, back-to-back calls to with the |extend= parameter as shown below: <syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext" style="width:450px; overflow:scroll"> | extend= Template:Infobox roller coaster/extendTemplate:Infobox roller coaster/extend</syntaxhighlight>

Note how each instance of extend= contains its own |location= parameter in addition to other parameters like |status=, |opened=, etc.

See the |extend= parameter description below for more information on how to add additional locations. Also see "Backlot Stunt Coaster" to see how this template has been applied for three locations.

caption The caption for the picture. An overview of Kingda Ka

Primary location

location The name of the park where the coaster resides, or use "Portable" if the coaster does not have a fixed location. Use the full, properly capitalized name of the park. Do not include disambiguatory brackets as described in locationarticle below, and do not link it. It will be linked automatically, so the park name must be exact. La Ronde
locationarticle If a park article contains disambiguatory brackets, for example La Ronde (amusement park), then use the complete name here. This will link the text in the 'location' field to the correct article. La Ronde (amusement park)
altname Name of ride at primary location, if different from the article name. Name history may be placed here as an unbulleted list using plainlist or ubl. Name 1 (1900–2000)
section The section of the park where the coaster is located. Should not be linked, as a section link will be automatically generated using the location parameter. For example, a location of Six Flags Great Adventure and a section of Golden Kingdom will create this link: Golden Kingdom. Golden Kingdom
subsection If the coaster is located within a subsection of a larger section within a park, provide the name for that subsection here. Should not be linked, a section link will be automatically generated using the location parameter. X-Base
coordinates The geographical coordinates for the roller coaster's station. The template Coord should be used with the parameter display=inline, title for a single coaster or display=inline for multiple coasters. Coordinates should be rounded to the nearest .0001 (ten thousandths).
status The current status of the roller coaster: Operating, Closed, Under construction, Removed. For long-term closures, use Closed. For those under refurbishment, use Under construction. Operating
opened The date the coaster officially opened to the public. For unofficial preview openings, use the "soft-opened" parameter. Use the Start date template and add the df=yes flag when the country the coaster is located in uses the DD-MM-YY date format. This will auto-categorize by opening year. 2011
soft_opened The date the coaster first opened unofficially and not to the public. Should be used for preview dates (e.g., media day) using the Start date template and add the df=yes flag when the country the coaster is located in uses the DD-MM-YY date format.
year The year the coaster opened under its current name (optional). This overrides the opened parameter and categorizes the coaster by opening year (helpful when the current name is not the same as when it first opened). Must only contain numerals and should only be used in conjunction with the "opened" parameter. 2011
closed The date the coaster officially closed and ceased operations. Should only be used if the coaster is closed permanently or indefinitely. Do not use this field for seasonal closures or when the coaster is undergoing routine maintenance. Use the End date template and add the df=yes flag when the country the coaster is located in uses the DD-MM-YY date format.
cost The cost of construction expressed in the currency of the country where the coaster is located. A$7 million
previousattraction If this coaster replaced another ride, supply the name of the attraction it replaced and link as needed. The Space Diver
replacement If this coaster was replaced, supply the name of the attraction that replaced it and link as needed. X-Flight
location_website The coaster's official website URL for the particular location this is specified for. See Batman: The Ride. {{Official website |https://www.sixflags.com

location_rcdb_number The number in the URL of the coaster's location-specific RCDB page 2832

Additional locations

extend This parameter allows information about the same roller coaster (either relocation or mirror copy) to be added within the same infobox. It relies on Template:Infobox roller coaster/extend which contains all of the "Primary location" parameters described above. Full syntax is shown in the Additional locations section above. One or more of these templates can be concatenated together. <syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext">

Template:Infobox roller coaster/extend </syntaxhighlight>

Specific details

type The primary track type, Steel or Wood only. This refers to the composition of the track and does not take the support structure into account. Should not be linked, as it will be linked automatically and added to the appropriate category: Category:Steel roller coasters or Category:Wooden roller coasters. Steel
type2 The secondary and tertiary types. |type2= and |type3= can be any one of the following, or another type if appropriate:
 • 4th Dimension
 • Bobsled
 • Dive Coaster
 • Duelling
 • Enclosed
 • Floorless Coaster
 • Flying
 • Indoor
 • Inverted
 • Launched
 • Powered
 • Racing
 • Shuttle
 • Side friction
 • Spinning
 • Stand-up
 • Suspended
 • Virginia Reel
 • Wild Mouse
 • Wing Coaster

This parameter should not be linked. It will be linked automatically and add the coaster to a category for that type. For example, "Inverted" will link to Inverted roller coaster and add the coaster to Category:Inverted roller coasters.

Note: This is not the track layout. Layout descriptions like Out and Back and Twister should instead be specified in the |track= parameter. Height categories – Hypercoaster, Gigacoaster, and Stratacoaster – also do not belong here and will be automatically calculated by the |height= entry.

Launched
type3 Shuttle
manufacturer The full, official name of the coaster's primary manufacturer. This should NOT be linked, it will be automatically linked and it will add the coaster to a category for that manufacturer. If that category does not exist then it will generate the hidden category:Roller coasters manufactured by other builders. Intamin
manufacturerarticle If a manufacturer article contains disambiguatory brackets, for example Lagoon (amusement park), then use the complete name here. This will direct the text in the 'manufacturer' field to the right page. Lagoon (amusement park)
designer Company, people, or person responsible for the coaster's design pertaining to its track, support structure, and/or layout. Will not automatically link, so link to an appropriate article if applicable. Use ubl for multiple entries. Werner Stengel
model The model name as listed at RCDB or another secondary source cited in the article. This will often, but not always, be the same as the secondary type. Will not be automatically linked and should only be linked if it differs from |type2=. SkyLoop
track The track layout as listed on RCDB. This could be something like Out and Back, Twister, Moebius Loop, Terrain etc. Because track layouts can vary greatly from the standard ones, this parameter will not be automatically linked and will not automatically add the coaster to a category. Out and back

Statistics

lift The type of lift or launch system used by the coaster, such as chain, cable, or linear induction motor. Will not be automatically linked or categorized, so link as appropriate. When more than one lift hill exists, list each one using ubl. Chain lift hill
LIM launch
height_ft Only accepts numeric values. The coaster's height, drop, and length may be expressed in feet or metres, and speed may be expressed in miles per hour or kilometres per hour.
Conversions to SI/metric (metres or km/h) or imperial/US customary (feet or mph) will be automatically calculated specified in parenthesis – the reason why the values must be entirely numeric. Additionally, the height_ft or height_m parameter will be used to automatically categorize the coaster's height classification (if applicable): Hypercoaster, Gigacoaster, etc.
152
height_m 46.2
drop_ft 150
drop_m 45
length_ft 490
length_m 150
speed_mph 65
speed_km/h 105
inversions Represents the number of times riders are turned upside down during the course of the ride. Should be consistent with RCDB and/or other secondary sources. Beyond-vertical drops are not typically counted. Some complex elements, such as the banana roll on Steel Curtain, may result in conflicting assessments. 2
duration The actual duration of the ride, which is typically measured from the moment the train begins moving to the moment it comes to a full stop on the final brake run. The time it takes to return to the station from the brake run varies depending on the number of trains and the complexity of boarding process, so this additional time is not usually taken into account. RCDB is typically cited here. 1:45
angle The maximum vertical angle, in degrees, of the track's steepest drop. Usually the angle of the first drop, but not always. Inversions are not taken into account. 120
capacity The theoretical maximum number of guests that the coaster can accommodate in one hour. 600
acceleration The maximum rate of acceleration of the coaster. If not listed on RCDB, then it should be taken from a secondary source. Often specified for launched coasters. If this parameter is used you must express the acceleration in full form. 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in 2 seconds
acceleration_from The maximum rate of acceleration of the coaster, broken out into multiple parameters. Must use |acceleration_in=, along with either |acceleration_mph= or |acceleration_km/h=
 • |acceleration_from= the initial speed of the roller coaster before acceleration, if known. Parameter is optional and defaults to zero. The value must be numeric.
 • |acceleration_mph= the final speed of the roller coaster in mph. Conversion to km/h will be given in parenthesis. The value must be numeric.
 • |acceleration_km/h= the final speed of the roller coaster in km/h. Conversions to mph will be given in parenthesis. The value must be numeric.
 • |acceleration_in= the number of seconds it takes to reach the final speed. The value does not have to be numeric.

Note: The |acceleration_from= parameter is optional, but should be specified if known.

0
acceleration_mph 62
acceleration_km/h 100
acceleration_in 2
gforce The maximum g-force experienced by riders during the ride. 4.5
trains All 4 parameters must be specified. If one is missing, none of the information entered will be displayed. Only use numeric values.
If the number of trains is unknown, add the word "Several" instead of leaving blank. You can optionally use the custom_label parameter below as an alternate method for special circumstances, as shown at Ultra Twister (Six Flags)
4
carspertrain 6
rowspercar 3
ridersperrow 2

Rider information

restriction_ft Height restriction of the roller coaster. All values must be entirely numeric. The template will automatically convert the values and display them in feet and inches and in centimetres. For the imperial unit of measure, a combination of the feet and inches parameters can be used (e.g. 4ft 6in). 4
restriction_in 48
restriction_cm 120
virtual_queue_name Use these fields if there is a virtual queuing system available. The name parameter is used to describe what it is (e.g. Disney's Fastpass, Universal Express, Dreamworld's Q4U etc.). The status field should read "available" if the virtual queuing system is available. The image parameter should contain the name (without the or tag. Examples include: Q4U
virtual_queue_image Dreamworld Q4U availability.svg
virtual_queue_status available
single_rider Include any of these fields followed by the word "available" if any of these apply to the attraction at all locations. If any of these are different at different locations, use the location-specific versions in the "Rider information" section above and . "accessible" refers to Wheelchair Accessibility. "transfer_accessible" means riders must transfer from wheelchair. available
accessible
transfer_accessible

Additional information

pay_per_use Set to "yes" if the ride is an upcharge, Pay-Per-Use attraction. yes
theme The ride's primary theme. Should be linked and should be based on a reliable source (that's cited in the article body). Superman
website The ride's official website page, which is typically a subpage on the park's main website.
rcdb_number The number specified in the URL (not the full URL) of the coaster's entry at Roller Coaster Database (RCDB). For example, Kingda Ka's RCDB page is https://rcdb.com/2832.htm, so this parameter would be set to 2832. When left blank, the template will attempt to pull the number from Wikidata, if available. 2832
custom_label_1

custom_label_8

If there is a general statistic that is missing from the above categories, include it here. The label fields will appear in bold on the left while the values will appear normally on the right. Replaced

Iron Wolf

Video

video The primary picture of the coaster. Use only the filename of the image. For example, you should use "Kanonen, Liseberg.ogv" instead of "" Kanonen, Liseberg.ogv
videodimensions Set the size of the above video. If "" would have been used otherwise, the imagedimensions is "200px". Must be expressed as a number, followed by "px". 200px
videocaption The caption for the video. Video showing the entire ride from a first person view.

Measurement conversions

By default, measurement conversions in this template invoke convert, which will automatically attempt to round to a level of precision that is similar to the input value. Most of the time, this works as expected. However, there are situations where the output may not be satisfactory.

Default behavior, for comparison:
 • |speed_km/h=179 → 179 km/h (111 mph) Green tickY
 • |speed_km/h=180 → 180 km/h (110 mph) Red XN

In the second example above, the actual conversion is 111.847. However, the input value of 180 only has two significant figures, so the conversion rounds to the nearest tens position resulting in 110. A workaround available in this template is to specify the number of significant figures.

 • |speed_km/h=180
|sigfig_speed=3 → 180 km/h (112 mph) Green tickY
Note: Setting |sigfig_speed=3 forces the conversion to use three significant figures and round to the ones position resulting in 112 (rounds up from 111.8).

Here is a complete list of available |sigfig= parameters:

 • |sigfig_height=
 • |sigfig_drop=
 • |sigfig_length=
 • |sigfig_speed=

Tracking categories

Hidden maintenance/tracking categories which may be added to articles using this infobox:

Microformat

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the place-name and location parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia, or via a browser tool operated by a person, to (for example) add the subject to an address book. Within the hCard is a Geo microformat, which additionally makes the coordinates (latitude & longitude) parsable, so that they can be, say, looked up on a map, or downloaded to a GPS unit. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates

If the place or venue has "established", "founded", "opened" or similar dates, use start date for the earliest of those dates unless the date is before 1583 CE.

If it has a URL, use URL.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.

Classes

hCard uses HTML classes including:

 • adr
 • agent
 • category
 • county-name
 • extended-address
 • fn
 • label
 • locality
 • nickname
 • note
 • org
 • region
 • street-address
 • uid
 • url
 • vcard

Geo is produced by calling coord, and uses HTML classes:

 • geo
 • latitude
 • longitude

Please do not rename or remove these classes nor collapse nested elements which use them.

Precision

When giving coordinates, please use an appropriate level of precision. Do not use coord's |name= parameter.
