Parameters

All attributes are optional.

Parameter Explanation
child
pre-nominals To appear on the line above the person's name. This is for things like |pre-nominals=Sir – honorifics of serious significance that are attached to the name in formal address, such as knighthoods and titles of nobility; do not use it for routine things like "Dr." or "Ms."
name Common name of the person (defaults to article name if left blank; provide |birth_name= (below) if different from |name=). If middle initials are specified (or implied) by the lead of the article, and are not specified separately in the |birth_name= parameter, include them here. Do not put honorifics or alternative names in this parameter. There are separate parameters for these things, covered below.
post-nominals To appear on the line below the person's name. This is for things like |post-nominals=[[Officer of the Order of the British Empire|OBE]] – honorifics of serious significance that are attached to the name in formal address, such as national orders and non-honorary doctorates; do not use it for routine things like "BA". It is permissible but not required to use the {{post-nominals}} template inside this parameter; doing so requires {{post-nominals|size=100|...}}.
abovestyle
image Image name. Use just the image name without the File: or Image: prefix: abc.jpg, xpz.png, 123.gif, etc. If an image is desired but not available, one may add yes to the |needs-photo= parameter of the {{WikiProject Biography}} on the talk page. If no image is available yet, do not use an image placeholder.
image_size Size to display image: 200px (set width), x300px (set height), or 200x300px (max width & max height). If empty or omitted, this defaults to frameless (default is 220px, but logged in users can change this by clicking on "my preferences" and adjusting thumbnail size). This parameter should not normally need to be set.
alt Alt text for image, for visually impaired readers. See WP:ALT.
caption Caption for image, if needed. Try to include date of photo and name of the photographer.
pseudonym Any of the comedian's aliases or pen names.
birth_name Name at birth; only use if different from the value in |name=.
native_name Name in local language. If more than one, separate using {{Plain list}} or {{Unbulleted list}}
native_name_lang ISO 639-2 language code e.g. fr for French. If more than one, use {{lang}} instead
birth_date Date of birth: {{birth date and age}} (if living) or {{birth date}} (if dead). See Template:Birth date and age/doc for details on usage. If only a year of birth is known, or age as of a certain date, consider using {{birth year and age}} or {{birth based on age as of date}}.
birth_place Place of birth: city, administrative region, sovereign state. Use the name of the birth place at the time of birth, e.g.: Saigon (prior to 1976), Ho Chi Minh City (post 1976). Do not use a flag template.
death_date Date of death: {{death date and age}} (if birth date is known) or {{death date}} (if birth date unknown). See Template:Death date/doc for details on usage. If exact dates are unknown, consider using {{death year and age}}.
death_place Place of death: city, administrative region, sovereign state. Note: Do not use a flag template. Use the name of the death place at the time of death, e.g.: Saigon (prior to 1976) or Ho Chi Minh City (post 1976)
resting_place Location of grave, ashes, etc.
resting_place_coordinates Precise coordinates of grave, etc.
medium A list of medium(s) in which the comedian has performed. Examples include: television, stand-up, film, etc.
nationality Nationality. Use only when necessary per WP:INFONAT. Do not use a flag template.
education
alma_mater
years_active Date range in years during which the comedian was active in their mediums, and/or other activity for which they are notable. Use the format 1950–2000, or 1970–present if the comedian is still active (note the use of an en dash, not hyphen). If no dates of birth and/or death are known for the comedian, only a floruit date range, this parameter can be used for it. If approximate (circa) dates are known for either or both, put them in the |birth_date= and |death_date= parameters.
employer
genre The comedian's general comedic genre. For instance, Jon Stewart would be political satire; George Carlin would be black humor.
subject The most frequent topics of the comedian's comedy. Examples: Dave Chappelle could be racism and race relations. Stephen Colbert could be American politics; the Christian Right. Cheech Marin could be race; drugs. Wikilink terms to articles as appropriate.
spouse
domestic_partner

notable_works
memorials Statues, plaques, things named after the comedian
signature An image of the comedian's signature. Use just the image name without the File: or Image: prefix: abc.jpg, xpz.png, 123.gif, etc.
current_members For comedy troupes and double acts, list all current members. If the troupe/duo has broken up, name all people who were members at the time of the breakup.
past_members For comedy troupes and double acts, list all members who have, for whatever reason, left. If the troupe/duo has broken up, name all people who left before the time of the breakup.
website The comedian's official website only. Unofficial websites should be placed under ==External links== in the body of the article. Use {{URL}} as in {{URL|Example.com}}. Do not include the www. part unless the server requires it. Use camel case capitalization to make multiword domain names easier to read.

module Used for embedding other infoboxes into this one.

Use as a child template

The child or embed parameter is used when embedding this infobox into another.

This infobox may be used to create a genre-specific section within {{Infobox person}} (or similar biographical infobox templates) for cases where a person may be notable in more than one field; a generic example is shown below. For guidance on usage, see Wikipedia:Infobox modules. Also see the Template:Infobox documentation which explains embedding and subboxes.

{{Infobox comedian

</syntaxhighlight>

Embedding other templates

The module or misc parameter is used for embedding other templates into this infobox.

<syntaxhighlight lang="wikitext" style="overflow: auto;">

Microformat

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates

Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth date}}, or {{birth date and age}} are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583). Be cautious about using these if the person is still living, per WP:DOB.

To include a URL, use {{URL}}.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.

Classes

hCard uses HTML classes including:

  • adr
  • agent
  • bday
  • birthplace
  • category
  • country-name
  • deathdate
  • deathplace
  • extended-address
  • family-name

  • given-name
  • honorific-prefix
  • honorific-suffix
  • label
  • locality
  • n
  • nickname
  • note
  • org
  • role
  • url
  • vcard

Please do not rename or remove these classes nor collapse nested elements which use them.
