Bad Dog (坏狗, Huai gou, lit. 'Bad Dog', stylised as BAD DOG), is a cyberpunk shooter video game developed by Xiaonei Software Entertainment as a launch title for the SuperPlay 2, releasing alongside the system on the 20th of November 2000. Bad Dog is a twin-stick shoot-em-up played from an isometric perspective. It takes place in a futuristic depiction of Fujing, where the unnamed player character nicknamed Puppy attempts to rescue their kidnapped brother from the Heaven corporation which controls the city. It was designed to take full advantage of the technical capabilities of the SuperPlay 2 using then-novel graphical techniques such as cube-map reflections and ambient occlusion as well as higher resolution textures and models versus the previous generation SuperPlay, with the game's fast-paced action intended to demonstrate the console's high frame rates.
Bad Dog received universal acclaim and was particularly praised by critics for its graphics and visual design, narrative and gameplay. Sean O'Connell wrote for EdoGamer that "Bad Dog subverts emerging video game narrative tropes by turning them on their head and daring to suggest that you, the player, are not always able to come out on top." It is considered one of the best video games of its generation and a demonstration of video games as an art form.
