The purpose of this template is to provide an infobox summary for articles on specific events of a championship or games, for example Athletics at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 metres. This template is designed for usage on any grouping of articles which describe individual competitions within a broader sports event.

- event
- Name of the event. For infobox title, this can be used alone or in conjunction with "competition", "competition", or "games".
- name

- Name of the competition. For infobox title, this can be used alone or in conjunction with "event".
- championship
- Name of the championship. For infobox title, this can be used alone or in conjunction with "event".
- games
- Name of the games. For infobox title, this can be used alone or in conjunction with "event" or "governing body".
- governing_body
- One of the following: IOC (Olympic Games), PASO (Pan American Games), CGF (Commonwealth Games), or SEAGF (Southeast Asian Games). Use in conjunction with "year", and optionally for IOC only: "type" or "games" (see examples below).
- year
- Used with "governing_body", such as "governing_body=IOC" with "year=2012", or "governing_body=PASO" with "year=2015".
- type
- Used with "governing_body=IOC" for years with multiple Olympics, such as 1988 which needs "type=Summer" or "type=Winter".
- image
- An image filename
- alt
- Alt text for the image
- caption
- Displays under the image
